4 Common Signs That Your Transmission Is In Need Of Repair

When it comes to auto repairs, transmission problems are something that should never be ignored. Your vehicle's transmission plays a very important role in transmitting power to the drive train and allowing the car to shift gears; failure to take care of transmission problems promptly can result in needing to replace the transmission, which can be very expensive. Some common signs that your transmission needs repair as soon as possible include:

Rough Shifting

When a transmission is in good repair, you should be able to change gears easily and smoothly. A common sign of a transmission issue is rough shifting, which may result in shuddering or jerking when you change from one gear to another.

Transmission Slipping

Transmission slipping is often described as feeling like your car changes gear while in motion for no reason. in addition to noticing that your vehicle seems to be in a different gear despite the fact that you have not changed gears, you may also notice a whining or high pitch sound coming from the engine when the transmission slipping occurs. A slipping transmission is a serious problem, and you should avoid driving your vehicle if you notice this happening. To prevent further damage, a vehicle with a slipping transmission should be looked at by an experienced mechanic as soon as possible.

Delay in Movement

The transmission send power to the drive train and regulates the power in different gears which allows a vehicle to move smoothly. When there is a transmission problem, you may notice a delay in your vehicle moving when you change gears. This is often most apparent when shifting from park to reverse or drive; you may notice that you have changed gears, but when you put your foot on the gas pedal the car does not respond or move right away.

Leaking Transmission Fluid

Transmissions are designed to be closed units that are not supposed to leak, so if you're vehicle is leaking transmission fluid you have a problem. An automobile uses several different types of fluid, so if you notice spots on your driveway from a leak, it is important to find out what the fluid is. In most cases, transmission fluid is bright red in color, so if you see drops of red fluid it is important to take your car to a transmission repair shop so a mechanic can figure where the fluid is leaking from and fix the problem.
